Gordon Patrick Ferguson

December 28, 1962 — October 5, 2024

Gordon "Gordy" Patrick Ferguson, 61, of Hopewell, VA, danced his way into the Kingdom of Heaven, on the evening of October 5, 2024. Born in Buffalo, NY, to Carol Anne and Leslie Allen Ferguson, on December 28, 1962, Gordy lived life with a love for music and mischief-although not necessarily in that order. A self-professed Deadhead, Gordy spent a good chunk of his youth chasing The Grateful Dead from one venue to the next. It wasn't until he met Debra Lynn Patten that he finally decided to settle down, marrying her on July 4, 1998, ensuring every anniversary would come with fireworks (genius move, right?).

Gordy was a Title Examiner at Bon Air Title, in Richmond, for 24 years, with an attention to detail that could have rivaled a hawk's. His lawn was beautiful, his home well-ordered, his kitchen sink spotless, and his Bills fandom, unshakable. His love for the Bills and the world of athleticism came naturally from his youth. His brothers both report watching him play... effectively any sport, and position...was something that had to be seen words would never do; he was really just that good, period. Family gatherings were an event-his famous Easter egg hunts were practically professional sports, and grandkid's birthdays came with $2 bills and Sacagawea coins.

He loved hard, served others even harder, and was always there when you needed a friend.

Arguably very little, if anything...meant more to Gordy than his relationships with friends and family, he left little distinction between them. Gordy would drive two hours to spend ten minutes with someone who needed him to be there. When he took Jesus into his life, through Him he extended that love and compassion to everyone he met; and to everyone he served. Gordy's family became all of us everywhere he just ran out of time to meet us all. Gordy served as a youth minister and camp counselor, but his biggest ministry was at home. He didn't just step into the role of stepdad-he ran with it, becoming a stepfather his children and grandkids adored.

Gordy is survived by his loving wife, Debra Patten Ferguson; and their children, Donna Patten Snyder and her husband, Patrick Snyder, Regina Patten Evans and her husband, Eric Evans, and Gene Patten and his wife, Nicole Patten.

He is also survived by his brothers, Tad Ferguson and his wife, Jenny Ferguson, and their children, Ian and Tristan, and Greg Ferguson and his wife, Laura Ferguson, and their children, Eric, Kelsey, Zachary, Adam, and Sam.

Gordon was blessed with a bevy of grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Public viewing will take place at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home - Hopewell Chapel, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The service will take place, in the chapel at the funeral home, at 11 AM, on Friday, October 11, 2024.
