Gordon Bohannan Galusha died, with his family, September 16, 2007. He was the son of the late Henry Hunt Galusha and Anna Eloise Bohannan of Dinwiddie County, Virginia and was predeceased by his wife Mary Kevan Lai of Petersburg. He is survived by his brother Henry Hunt Galusha, Jr. and his daughters Mary Kevan Galusha Roper, Anna Hunt Galusha Aquino, and Katherine Gordon Galusha Ross and their husbands, George Herbert McNeal Roper, King Charles Anthony Aquino and Arthur William Ross, III. His five grandchildren are Mary Kevan Roper, George Herbert McNeal Roper, Jr. Gordon Bohannan Galusha Roper, Andrew Charles Aquino and Adam Anthony Aquino. He attended University of Richmond (V-12) and Notre Dame University Midshipmenâ??s School during World War II, and served as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia in 1951 from which he received the Thomas Jefferson Medal for student excellence, then earned his Master of Architecture from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He began career with Marcellus Wright and Partners in Richmond, and upon receiving his license opened his practice, Gordon B. Galusha, AIA, Architect in 1954 in Petersburg. Near the end of his career he merged with Bond Comet Westmoreland Architects, and retired in 1991. Mr Galusha primarily designed schools and municipal projects. Projects of note are the renovation of the historic Petersburg Courthouse, the design of the Petersburg Courts buildings, additions to Petersburg General Hospital, many Petersburg public schools including Petersburg High School, Prince George Public Schools, Prince George Courthouse, Colonial Heights Public Schools including Colonial Heights High School, Amelia County Public Schools, Chesterfield County Public Schools, Chesterfield County Court and Police, Hopewell Schools, and Richard Bland College master plan and many buildings. He designed James River Corporation in Richmond, renovated Upper Brandon Plantation, Centre Hill Museum and the Siege Museum both in Petersburg. His 4H Center in Wakefield, Virginia was a favorite of his. Mr. Galusha loved golf. After his retirement he devoted his time to golf and nature conservation, working especially hard for the Virginia Marine Science Museum in Virginia Beach and the Nature Conservancy. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery.
