Gordon Leon Mccandless

McCANDLESS, GORDON LEON, 92, died Friday, May 1, 2015. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served his country in the U.S. Army for 23 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Hilma and brothers Kenneth and Donald. Surviving is daughter, Barbara Jellison (Dale) and son, Melvin McCandless (Janice), grandchildren, Jason McCandless, Sonja McCandless, Dwain Billmyer (Kathy), Jeff Billmyer (Ellen), and Chuck Billmyer (Carey). He enjoyed life, family, and his many friends, whom he greatly amused with his stories and jokes. He always had a smile on his face, never met a stranger, and inspired many. Gordon can now join the love of his life, Hilma Gray Bailey McCandless, whom he has missed these last 5 years. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke for their excellent care and love given to Gordon. A graveside service will be held at Ameila Veterans Cemetery, 10300 Pridesville Rd, Amelia Court House, VA 23002, at 1:00 P.M., on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
