Gordon Burt Williams, Sr., 73, of Hopewell, died , Thursday June 3,2004 at his residence. He was born in McKenney and had been a resident of this area for 50 years. Mr. Williams served in the U. S. Army , Army National Guard, retired powerhouse operator at Hercules, and owner of the Williams Sewing Machine Repair Shop. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, stew-master and vegetable gardener, a member of First Baptist Church serving as Deacon and in the Singing Saints Choir. He was known for his energetic and generous nature and devotion to family and friends. Mr. Williams was preceeded in death by his parents, James D. and Jenny Roberts Williams , two brothers, James and Edward Williams , two sisters, Alice Loftis and Elizabeth Gill. Surviving are his wife, Mary B. Williams of Hopewell, a daughter, Beverly A. Bain of Disputanta ,a son, Gordon B. Williams, Jr. of Florida , five grandchildren, Gordon B. Williams III, of Hopewell, Jennifer G. Williams of Dinwiddie , Michael J. Williams, of Alabama, Tiffany L. Emory of Chesterfield , and David P. Bain, Jr. of Colonial Heights, ten great-grandchildren, a sister, Rosalie Wingold of Hopewell, two step-daughters, Peggy P. Cooke of Hopewell and Betty Jo P. Manasco, of Midlothian and four step-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3-4:30 P.M. in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 7, 2004 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Willie Cromer pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Appomattox Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church 401 N.2nd Ave, Hopewell.
