Griffin Wilder Clark, cherished son of Cynthia (Cindy) Wilder Clark and Kenneth (Kenny) Taylor Clark of Chester, died on July 4, 2016. Clark, also of Chester, was 21. He is also survived by his brother, Taylor Thomas Clark, sister in law Brittany Garter Clark, and the new light of his world, 6 month old niece, Camryn Gray Clark, all of Iowa, La.
He was the grandson of Donna Spear Clark of Sandston, and the late Billy Taylor Clark, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Chip) Wilder Jr. (Nancy) of Williamsburg. He is also survived by a great grandmother, Myrtle Baldwin Bailey, also of Williamsburg, and many special cousins, aunts, uncles, and the absolute best of friends.
Griffin was born in Henrico County, and raised in Henrico, Lancaster, and Chesterfield counties, respectively. He was a graduate of Thomas Dale High School where he was a member of the accomplished golf team from 2010 to 2013. He was also active in the competitive junior golf world outside of school, excelling in many PGA, VSGA, RGA, AJGA and independent events during his exciting junior golf career.
He was a junior at Saint Leo University, near Tampa, Florida, where he was recently a part of the winning national championship team (DII) in Denver, held in May of this year. It was the pinnacle of his golf career.
He had been employed at The Country Club of Petersburg since 2011, which he considered a second home.
Griffin obviously loved and excelled at golf, but more than that he loved and excelled at life. He loved his family, and countless great friends and teammates, who were all privy to his kind heart, generous spirit, quick, dry wit, and infectious smile and laugh. Griffin was nothing, if not a great friend to all.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11 am, at The Country Club of Petersburg, located at 1250 Flank Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Dress is club casual, which Griff would have wanted. He would have also thought a bunch of flowers silly for him, so in lieu of them, expressions of sympathy are encouraged and appreciated for something that he would have loved, donations to the golf program at Saint Leo University in his memory.
