Gwen Palmore Witt

August 11, 1951 — January 2, 2024

Gwen Palmore Witt, a resident of Colonial Heights, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the age of 72. Born to the late Robert L. Palmore and Marion H. Houchins Palmore "Hopie". She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Russell R. Witt Jr. "Roy."

She was born in Petersburg, Virginia, and spent most of her life in Colonial Heights. As a child, she enjoyed playing with her cousins, her beloved Tiny Tears doll, and riding go-karts that her father would create. She also loved spending time at the Sunken Meadow. Gwen attended Colonial Heights High School, later working at both Brown & Williamson and Philip Morris. It wasn't until later that she discovered her true calling as a hairdresser. For over 40 years, Gwen worked as a beautician at Kathee's Koiffuers, Hair Experience, and finally opening her own salon, Angelic Kuts by Gwen. She was known for her kindness and generosity, always putting others first. It was common for her to make time for people with hair emergencies or help cancer patients unlock their beauty with wig fittings.

Gwen also enjoyed traveling, in the camper with her husband or otherwise. She went to Texas, California, Las Vegas, Utah, Atlantic City, and many other places. She loved playing cards, eating out, and one of her favorite places to visit was Myrtle Beach. She would reminisce during local travels around about all her past adventures. "Do you see this place? This is where... or I remember when...". It was a view in time, getting to know about her life, how she lived, and what molded her into the person she became. She loved to decorate and used her salon to showcase her style of zebra print, bling, ceramic shoe collection, and countless angels. You would always find something new and unique there. To know her, was to love her as many people have said over the years. Making friends never seemed to be an issue for her. She was blessed with cherished friendships over the years and did all she could for them, including making sure they got to their doctors appointments. A few include her childhood friend the late Bonnie Davis to the amazing people over her 16 years at Dunlop Farms Senior Apartment Community.

What brought her the greatest joy over the years was her title of Nana and Mom. All who were part of the family, either by marriage or not, always felt welcomed and loved by her. She enjoyed watching her family grow and above all else wanted them to find happiness. Christmas day was no exception. As her favorite holiday since childhood, she enjoyed the hustle and chaos of a packed home. Watching everyone gather, if just for one moment each year, all to revel in the delight of having her loved ones under one roof. The message was clear for all who attended. Near or far, we should be home for Christmas Day. Halloween was also another close second favorite. She loved to dress up. For holidays, as her love for Tinkerbell & witches was so much fun.

She is survived by her daughters, Ginger F. Lemocks (Chris), Stacey F. Hudson (Scott), and Jeanie Witt Bogue (Brian); and her beloved grandchildren, Robert, Matthew, Devon, Braxton, Jesse, Hailey, Noah, Ian, Carlee, and Lebbeni; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Shane, Charlotte, and Joseph.

The family will receive friends for a viewing on Monday, January 8, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of a traditional funeral, we will be holding a celebration of life for Gwen on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm, at Dunlop Farms Senior Apartments Community, at 1000 Dunlop Place, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Where you may bring a covered dish as we enjoy the memories of Gwen's life in the club house. Memorial donations may also be made to The Hawthorne Cancer Center at Johnston-Willis Hospital, www.thehawthorne.org/giving .
