Gwendolyn Roberts Harrell, of Petersburg, went home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2024.
A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, she is preceded in death by her husband, William C. Harrell, Sr.; parents, Clarence and Eva D. Roberts; brothers, Clarence and Jack; sisters, Carolyn Gibbens and Elaine Baker. She is survived by four daughters, Barbara E. Huff, of Portsmouth, Rosemary Harrell, of Chesterfield, Hope Carpenter (Gene), of Hephzibah, GA, and Mary L. Snead, of Mechanicsville; and a son, William C. Harrell, Jr. (Linda), of Colonial Heights; seven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gwen retired from Fort Lee. She was a member of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron of Alpha Chapter 1; Amarath Chapter 11, Petersburg; Chapter 1 in Richmond, Virginia, and Queen of Red Hat Society. A past member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, where she was Commander of Chapter 47, in Petersburg, also State Commander. She belonged to Chapter 50 of the DAVA, in Chesterfield. At the time of her passing she was attending Oakland Baptist Church, in Prince George.
Family and friends will assemble at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be conducted at Oakland Baptist Church, in Prince George, on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 10 am, by Reverend Lee Woodcock. Interment will be private.
