Hamilton Wayne Root, Sr.

H. Wayne Root, Sr., 82, of North Chesterfield, VA passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold William Root and Helen Madeline Bateman Root. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jean Loving Root; children, Hamilton Wayne Root, Jr. (Konnie), Victoria Layne Dryer, (Michael), Pamela H. Helberg, Joseph H. Hanchey III; grandchildren, Ryan Hamilton Root, Kelly Ellen Root, Jordan Michele Tocheny, (Chaz), Devon Thomas Dryer, Peyton Elizabeth Dryer, Herman Wesley Helberg, Crystal Maury Helberg; great grandchild, Nikolai Andrew Tocheny; brother, Roger Winston Root, (Suzanne); sisters, Jeanette Carol Woodward, (Dave), Sharon Sherille Beattie; as well as, numerous extended family and friends. He was a member of Kingsland Baptist Church, and of the Virginian’s Accapella Choir. Wayne was a former Grandmaster of the Benjamin Franklin Masonic Lodge in Washington D.C. Wayne was an Actor and Singer at Swift Creek Mill Playhouse and the Fort Lee Playhouse. Wayne played trumpet in the Thomas Dale Band, and he was first trumpet playing Taps at VPI. Wayne also played trumpet for the Chester Serenaders. He was a very talented artist, and avid golfer. Wayne never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, VA 23831. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Centralia Cemetery.
