Harlan Earl Harvey, born March 20, 1940, of Prince George, VA, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was the son of the late Harlan Denson Harvey. Harlan was a member of Hodge Baptist Church in Hodge, LA, and St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church in Hopewell, VA. Harlan attended Jonesboro-Hodge High School in Jonesboro, LA and Louisiana Tech University. Harlan retired from Continental Can (later Smurfit Stone) after 40 years of service, a reflection of his tremendous work ethic and dedication. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Anne Harvey; his mother, Marjorie Canterbury Harvey, of Hodge, LA; his children, Harlan Earl Harvey, Jr., of Jonesboro, LA, James Denson Harvey and his wife, Lindsey, of Arlington, VA, Harlan Benjamin Harvey, M.D., J.D., of Boston, MA, and Jeffrey Allyn Harvey, of Prince George, VA; and his brother, Bengy Denson Harvey, of Allen, TX. Harlan, a devoted husband, father and son was an avid sports enthusiast, hunter and fisherman. He coached baseball for the Prince George Little League, an activity that portrayed his commitment both to family and community. His presence will be deeply missed. The family will receive friends at the Hopewell chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church in Hopewell, VA followed by a committal service at the Merchants Hope Memorial Park in Prince George, VA. A celebration of Harlanâ??s life will follow at the home of Bobby and Linda Forehand located at 4620 Melfore Drive, Prince George, VA (off Ruffin Road). Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church, 505 Cedar Lane, Hopewell, VA 23860. Condolences to the family may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
