Harold Cecil Addington, Sr. was born in Coeburn, Wise County, Virginia to Adolphus and Ila Jordan Addington on December 13, 1915. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Adolphus Addington Jr., and Douglas Addington; one sister, Virginia Johnson; as well as his second wife, Beulah Blackwell of Coeburn, VA. He is survived by two brothers, Jack Addington of Rowlett, Texas, and Charles Addington of Bluefield, Virginia, and three sisters, Evelyn Baker of San Diego CA, Mary Main of Charlottesville, VA. and Juanita Grizzle of Tullahoma, TN. He is also survived by two sons, Harold Addington Jr. and wife Carol of Orange Beach, AL and Timothy Addington and wife Carol of Roswell, GA, one granddaughter, April Addington Geruso and husband Mike, of Austin TX, and one step daughter in law Nina Jean Powers of Sutherland, VA.

Harold graduated from Coeburn High School in 1931. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps in World War II, from 1943 until his discharge from service at Quantico, VA on July 30. 1946. He was married to Dorothy Hall of Norton, VA on March 28,1947. They were married for twenty years and had two sons, Hal and Tim. He moved to Sutherland VA and married Beulah Blackwell on July 1, 1947 where they lived together until she passed away on November 2, 1985 from cancer. Harold remained in Sutherland VA after the death of Beulah for the remainder of his life.

Harold worked for Cranes Nest Lumber and Supply Company, Clinchfield Coal Company, and served as manager of the Town of Coeburn for several years, at which time he was instrumental in building the dam in Toms Creek, VA. He later worked on other dam projects in the Petersburg area, and always took great personal pride in his work. An avid lover of baseball, a friend could almost guarantee to find him watching a game when visiting.

Services will be held on Saturday May 7, 2005 at 2:00pm at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Sutherland VA, friends and family welcome.
