Harold Eugene Rowland, Sr., 87, of Chesterfield, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Rowland Loker, and his parents, George Franklin and Elizabeth Rowland. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty Cox Rowland; his sons, G. Michael Rowland of Chesterfield, Harold Eugene Rowland, Jr. and his wife, Kathie of Disputanta; granddaughters, Kelsey and Ryann Rowland of Disputanta, Ashleigh Loker of Sidney Australia, Tara Loker Hambrick of Nags Head, N.C.; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Hambrick of Nags Head, N.C.; his younger brother, Hoover Rowland of Zwolle, Louisina. Harold was a native of Blackstone, but lived most of his adult life in Hopewell. He was a graduate of Hopewell High School. He retired from Continental Can Company as a Production Supervisor. The last 22 years of his life he has lived in Chesterfield. He was decorated veteran of World War II and Korea. He was proud to have served as a plank owner on the carrier U.S.S. Midway in World War II. Mr. Rowland served as a VA State Trooper upon his return from World War II. He served his country as a Marine during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post #637, 335 S. 15th Ave., Hopewell, Va., where he served as a past Post Commander. He was also a member of the American Legion, NRA and a life member of the Knights of Columbus. Harold was a loyal Redskin fan, a proud Republican his entire life, and he served as a election official at several precincts’ in Chesterfield County. A convert to the Catholic Faith, he was a staunch Traditionalist. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bon Air, Va. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. followed by a Rosary service at J.T. Morriss & Son, Chester Chapel. A Latin Requiem mass will be celebrated in his memory on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Following the mass, a luncheon will be served for family and friends. Graveside Burial Service will take place at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s (Blandford) Catholic Cemetery in Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
