Harry Lee Waddell, Sr., 88, of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Born in Highland Springs, Virginia, he was the son of the late Rufus A. and Lottie Mae Eggleston Waddell and was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Mr. Waddell served his country proudly in the U. S. Army where he was a Purple Heart recipient, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, landed on the beach of Normandy, and was reported MIA and declared killed in action. He enjoyed collecting civil war relics, retired from Petersburg School System as a maintenance supervisor after numerous years of service, spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Waddell; children, Charlene Fetters and her husband, Steve, Harry “Buck” Waddell, Jr. and his wife, Betty Jo, Cindy Becker and her husband, Robert, Ronald “Gus” Waddell and his wife, Bonnie, Tanya Colvin, Tina Faison, Traci England and her husband, Tom, Theresa Jessup and her husband, Scott; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Leigh, Pat Vaughn; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Readville Baptist Church (Sussex Courthouse), 20158 Princeton Road, Stony Creek, Va. 23882.
