Harry Robert Welch passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in Chesterfield, VA. Harry was born on January 19, 1937, in Richmond, VA, and was a longtime resident of Chesterfield County. He was the son of the late Harry Edward Welch and Mae Hattorf Welch Talley, of Mechanicsville, VA.
Harry earned a degree in Business Management from VCU, and spent the majority of his professional career in the insurance industry, and retired as the Regional Director of Claims for Sentry Insurance Company.
Harry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He experienced great pleasure in traveling, playing golf (made 3 holes-in-one), and spending the fall and winter months in Myrtle Beach, SC. Harry served 8 years in the Army National Guard and held rank of sergeant in the 176th Infantry. He was a former member of Chester Masonic Lodge #94; volunteer at the Massey Cancer Center at Stony Point; and was a member of Chester Baptist Church.
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Jean Bass Welch. They were married for 60 years. He is also survived by his son, Christopher Robert Welch (Michele), of Simpsonville, SC; son, Scott Forrest Welch, of Germantown, MD; grandchildren, Brendan Forrest Welch, of Germantown, MD, Hayley Rebecca Welch, of Easley, SC, and Ryan Christopher Welch, of Simpsonville, SC; sister, Judith Welch Wooddy, of Mechanicsville, VA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and Howard Hancock, of Midlothian, VA; nieces, Dr. Elizabeth Wooddy LaPense, of Ann Arbor, MI, Kimberly Joan Hancock Day, of Midlothian, VA, and Amy Jean Hancock Worrell, of Dilwyn, VA; and nephew, Dr. Mark William Wooddy, of Kansas City, MO.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Park. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
