Hazel Henshaw Mcdowell

On Thursday September 16th, 2021, Hazel Addie Henshaw Wilmoth McDowell, loving mother of three, passed away at the age of 100. Hazel was born on January 5, 1921 in Chesterfield, VA, to Hartwell and Bettie (Martin) Henshaw. She married Grey Wilmoth, October 14, 1939 and they raised one son, Willy and two daughters, Betty Anne and Sheila. She later married Clint McDowell on May 6, 1978.
Hazel loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren above all else. She had a passion for candy kisses, hot summer weather, crocheting, needle work and her azaleas. Her beautiful bedspreads and needle art were admired and cherished by her friends and family. She loved nothing better than teaching others the pleasure and beauty of crocheting. She enjoyed real old-time country music and square dancing with her husband Clint. She always greeted you with a laugh, a smile and a wonderful story. Even at a hundred years old she didn’t mind sharing a bit of her devilish past. She was sweet, kind and funny. We were all blessed to have her in our lives, and we know for sure that she is now strolling over heaven with her dear husband Clint.
Hazel was preceded in death by her son Willy, grandson, Pete and her husbands Grey Wilmoth and Clint McDowell. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Anne Springer (Skip) and her three sons, Jeff (Joann), Todd (Andi) and Eric (Shelley); her daughter, Sheila Forrest (Nick) and her son Keith (Janet), also Willy’s daughters Stephanie (David) and Stacy (William) and his son’s wife Karen. She is also blessed with great and great great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held for Hazel on Sunday September 19th at 2:00 p.m., Vaughan-Eyler Family Cemetery, 13585 Green Spire Court, Chester VA, 23836.
