A funeral for Hazel Virginia Poarch Batte will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in McKenney Friday at 11:00 AM. Mrs. Batte who was 96, died August 14. Her husband, Henry Barner Batte died in 1995.

Mrs. Batte came to McKenney to teach after graduating from Longwood College and spent the rest of her life there. She taught at Sunnyside and Dinwiddie elementary schools. She was an active member of Asbury and several community organizations. She played a key role in her husbandâ??s successful elections to Clerk of the Circuit Court of Dinwiddie.

Survivors include two daughters, Cornelia Anne Roberts and Mary Bruce Batte, their husbands, Max Roberts and Wilton Corkern; three granddaughters, Anne Courtney Howerton, (Wayne), Molly Virginia Tynes Corkern, and Sarah Ruth Batte Corkern; grandson, Claiborne Batte Roberts (Jodi); and four great-grandchildren, Holly and Nicholas Howerton, Madison Anne and Carter Dickinson Roberts; a sister, Genevieve Grubbs; Survivors also include brother-in-law and wife, J.P. and Madeline Batte; two sisters-in- law, Laura R. Poarch and Virginia P. Poarch and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Batte is also survived by Mrs. Gracie Jolly and family who have lovingly cared for her since 1995.

The family will receive friends at the Roberts home on Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Asbury Church Endowment Fund or Memorial Fund, P.O.
