HELEN COX BAIN, 91, passed away Monday, November 14, 2005 at her home. Born November 8, 1914 in Southampton County she was the daughter of the late Thomas Nicholas Cox and Mamie Brownley Cox. She was a housewife; a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church; and had served as the Past Matron of the Stony Creek Chapter #126, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bain was the widow of William Melvin Bain, and was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her nephews, J. Brownley Cox of Waverly, Thomas P. Tewell of Waverly, Paul D. Cox of Capron, and William G. Cox of Charlotte, NC.
Funeral services will be held at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Connie Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Virginia. Memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, % Rev. Connie Gibbs, P.O. Box 12, Waverly, VA 23890. Purviance Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Bain lived by the following poem and her wishes were to include it in her obituary.
God did not promise days without pain,
Laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain.
But God did promise strength for the day,
Comfort for the tears and light for the way.
And for all who believe in His kingdom above,
He answers their faith with everlasting love.
