Helen Edwards Barner Price

Helen Edwards Price (Barner), 96, of McKenney, passed away on July 5, 2021. She was born December 20, 1924 in Hertford County, NC to Samuel Edwards and Lucille Powell. She is survived by her sons, David Lunsford Barner Jr. and his wife, Dukie Rives Barner and Robert S. Price Jr.; daughters, Debbie F. Knight and Teresa Ordazzo; grandchildren, Kristen Leigh Barner Moran (Steven Moran) and David Mitchell Barner (Kristin Aerni Barner); great-grandchildren, Thomas Moran, Price Barner, and Brent Barner; brother, William Edwards, sisters, Carol Edwards Vinson and Faye Edwards Flora.

She is preceded in death by her first husband David L. Barner and her second husband Robert S. Price; daughter, Belle Crowder Barner Smith; granddaughter, Teresa Powell Smith; sister, Marion Edwards; and brother, Samuel Edwards Jr.

Helen studied nursing before marrying David Barner and moving to “Cherry Hill” where she would make her lifelong home. She helped to run the family country store and raise a family.

She worked at Camp Pickett, Blackstone, VA, and then in accounting at Fort Lee in Petersburg, VA until retirement. Helen and Robert traveled to Germany, Alaska, Vegas, New England, New York City, and Canada. When at home she loved gardening and birding. Helen was known for her special “Mimi rolls” and always shared them with family and friends. Helen enjoyed her walks with her dog Buddy, line dancing, and exercise classes. She was an avid reader. Most of all Helen was a devoted mother and “people person,” caring for and celebrating life with family, neighbors, and friends.

Visitation will be held at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home – Dinwiddie on Friday, July 9 from 6-8 PM. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, July 10 at 11 AM at the homeplace, “Cherry Hill,” 24103 Cherry Hill, McKenney.
