Helen Purdie Ellis

Helen Purdie Ellis, 102, of Prince George, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Luther Purdie and Lottie Estelle Purdie; her loving husband of 70 years, Floyd Harding Ellis; sisters, Mary Frances Roberts and Viola Jones; and brothers, William Purdie and Mitchell Purdie. Helen volunteered through the years at numerous hospitals and nursing homes throughout the Tri Cities. She was a longtime and very active member of Monumental Baptist Church. She enjoyed her volunteer work, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Christal Merhout, Linda Stewart and her husband, Ronald, and Sheila Chitwood and her husband, Charles; grandchildren, Michael Merhout and his wife, Cheryl, Timothy Stewart and his wife, Amy, Jeffrey Stewart and his wife, Robin, Joshua Stewart and his wife, Christine, Tony Watkins and his wife, Tricia, Todd Watkins and his wife, Tamika, Travis Chitwood and his wife, Laura; ten great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and staff and caregivers of Dunlop House. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
