Helen Mae Sullivan Hines, 103, of Chesterfield, VA, departed this life on July 28, 2023. She was born on September 7, 1919, in Johnston County, NC. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew Pharoh and Bette Rains Sullivan; and her loving husband of 52 years, Ralph Thurston Hines. She is survived by her three daughters, Betty H. Jones (Clark), Diane H. Berg, and Kay Roper; grandchildren, Paige Jones, Clint Trapp, Hannah Jones, and Tommy Roper (Holly and daughters); great-grandchildren, Sarah Harvey, Aidan Trapp, and Zina Cortese; and numerous Sullivan and Hines family nieces and nephews. Helen was a member of the Chester Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, Pocahontas Chapter. Helen retired from the Chesterfield County Public School food services. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing her cherished irises. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and cooking for them. She was known for her fried chicken and delicious rolls. Helen was beloved and will be missed. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Chester Presbyterian Church, 3424 W. Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to "The Gardens at Chester Presbyterian Church." Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorris.com .
