Helen Ruth McKimmey

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Helen Ruth McKimmey, at age 93. She passed away at home on February 8, 2025, in Matoaca, Virginia.

Helen retired from the Ukrops Petersburg store, where she was loved and admired by so many of her regular customers and coworkers. Helen was a devoted, beautiful force of nature, embodying the perfect blend of incredible strength, tenderness, wisdom, and playfulness. She was the heart of her home - a selfless caretaker whose love and devotion touched all who knew her. Helen found immense joy in cooking and had a deep affection for animals and was especially fond of hummingbirds. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family to the many beloved pets she cared for throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert McKimmey; son, James Trent; daughter, Patricia Willis; and many adored pets. Helen is survived by three children, Tracey Hensley, Sandra Clifton, and Elizabeth Bartlett (Keith); many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; adored sons-in-law; grand sons-in-law; sister, Louise White, of Robert, Louisiana; and three Shih Tzus who will miss her immensely. To know her was to love her, we will endure a lifetime of missing you for the privilege of loving you. A special gratitude to Dr. Kirby Southall for his dedication and continuity of care for over 20 years, to Crater Community Hospice for their compassion and comfort provided, and to those who showed unwavering love and devotion to which we know meant a lot to her.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, Petersburg.
