Helen Layne Midgette died Monday, March 10, 2008 at River View on the Appomattox.. Formerly of 2706 Walnut Street, Hopewell, VA, she was the widow of William Raleigh Midgette. She retired as an Executive Secretary from Continental Can Woodlands Division and was a member of First United Methodist where she served on various committees, was a member of the Early Birds Circle and treasurer of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class for many years. Mrs. Midgette was a member of the Womanâ??sâ?? Club of Hopewell and served as a volunteer for the Hopewell Chapter of the American Red Cross and bloodmobile.
She is survived by her sisters, Arlene L. Stanton of Chester, Virginia and Florence L. House of La Crescenta, California, her sister-in-law Carolyn W. Layne of Simpsonville, SC, her goddaughter Betsy Weston Burgess of Powder Springs, GA and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Appomattox Cemetery. The service will be conducted by
