Helen (Rescheduled) Leary

Helen Irene Leary, 74, of Petersburg, passed away on August 24, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Fedak Punk, and also preceded in death by three brothers, William, Leo, and Johnny Punk; and four sisters, Ginka Punk, Mary Vannatter, Aggie Johnson, and Millie Vanderneck. Mrs. Leary served in the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service as an operating room nurse. She was a member of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member of the Festival Committee for the outside food booth, and the WOW group, a dedicated volunteer at the SPCA- Petersburg and Colonial Heights Chapter, The American Legion Post# 2, an operating nurse at MCV, AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses), Retired Officers Association, AARP, the Fort Lee Officersâ?? and Civiliansâ?? Spouses Club, and the Virginia Nurseâ??s Association. She is survived by her daughter, Zonya Letson and husband, Matt of Wilmington, N.C.; two grandsons, Whitman and Charlie Letson; brother, George Punk and wife, Judy; a sister, Irene Sundberg and husband, Allan; and a brother-in-law, Jack Vanderneck. The family would like to thank all of the friends of Mrs. Leary for their love and support and friendship over the years. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at The Church of the Sacred Heart. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
