Greenwood, Helga Emilia Seastrom, 102, of Chesterfield, died October 14, 2007. Helga, the widow of Richard Stephen Greenwood, Sr., was the eighth of twelve children born to Viktor Sjostrom and Maria Soderlund Sjostrom in Mariehamn, Aland, Finland. She emigrated to Massachusetts as a teenager and became a citizen of the United States. While she was learning English, she worked as a motherâ??s helper and as a maid for many families, among them those of Senator Leverett Saltenstall and of Secretary of State Christian A. Herter, and had the honor of serving breakfast to President Herbert Hoover. Subsequently, she worked for Raytheon Corp. and Devcon Corp. of Danvers, MA. On her retirement she moved to Chesterfield, VA in 1979. Helga loved to bowl, enjoying many years of fun and friendship with the Dogwood Flowers and Thursday Coffee leagues at Bowl America Midlothian. She is survived by her son, RS Greenwood Jr., daughter-in-law Mary, grandsons William, James and Richard of VA, nieces Sandra Stewart of Plymouth, MA, Anja-Britt Thoden of Grankulla, Finland and Mary Elizabeth Graham of Naples, FLA. The family wishes to thank the residents and staff of Bon Secours Retirement Community, Ann Barba, and the nurses and doctors of Johnston-Willis hospital for their care and kindness. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Burial will be held in Peabody, MA. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church, Chester, VA. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church or Bon Secours Retirement Community.
