Henry Joseph Hayes, "Hank" of Chester, died on June 27, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital, in Midlothian. His wife, Kinh Lao Hayes died almost a year earlier, on July 3, 2022. They are survived by their son, Danny Hayes, of Chester. Lt. Col. Hayes was born in Newark, New Jersey, on February 7, 1942. He is predeceased by his parents, Dr. Gerald W. Hayes and Florence Auth Hayes, of Mendham, New Jersey; by his brothers, Michael Hayes, of Toms River, N.J., and the Rt. Rev. Giles Hayes, OSB, of Morristown, New Jersey. In addition to his son, Danny, he is survived by his sister, Mary Hayes, SNDdeN, of Washington, DC; his brother; Jerry Hayes, of Dallas Texas; and nieces and a nephew.
He graduated from the Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey, and from Mount St. Mary's University, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. After graduation he joined the US Army and became a supply officer with tours of duty in Germany, Vietnam, California, and Virginia. He retired from the army as a Lt. Col. and spent the next decades as a civilian employee for military supply offices. Hank and Kinh married in Morristown, New Jersey, on September 2, 1972.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 26, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester.
