Henry Francis Ludwig

Henry “Hank” Francis Ludwig, 71, of Chester, VA passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018. Born in Cold Spring, NY, he was the son of the late Robert Joseph and Martha Mary Lent Ludwig; and was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Robert and George Ludwig; and a sister, Grace Connelly. He served 20 years in the United States Army, retiring after leadership assignments in Libya, Germany, Korea, Sudan, Ethiopia, Vietnam and major U.S. Army headquarters throughout the DOD. He was currently serving as Sr. Vice President for Allen Corporation of America. Mr. Ludwig played a pivotal role in the design and development of automated Retail Logistics systems for the U.S. Army for over 30 years. Hank was a member of the Society of Logistics Engineers (SOLE), the U.S. Army Retirees Association, Board member for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and volunteered with United Way and the Children’s Miracle Network. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, boating and was an avid hockey fan. Hank was a loving and supporting husband, father, grandfather, soldier and friend. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Morris Ludwig; two children, James Ludwig (Jennifer) and Kristine Byers (Ken); six grandchildren, Michael Ludwig (Amy), Trevor Byers, Garrett Byers, Haley Ludwig, Deanna Jones (Casey) and Emily Ludwig; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brielle Ludwig; two sisters, Margaret Sickler and Martha Ludwig; three brothers, Leo, Frank and Mike Ludwig; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with Mr. Bill Vickers officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the day of the service at the funeral home.
