Henry D. Parker, Jr., 76, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 in Johnston-Willis Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Mr. Parker was born December 21, 1938 in Prince George County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Parker, Sr. and Maude Riddle Parker, and his aunt, Mary Lee Moore. He is survived by a cousin, Susie Andrews and her husband, Kenny, his longtime companion, Donna P. Vrable, his loyal employees, Russell Brockwell, Biff Riggan, and Blake Bishop, and his special sidekick, his dog, “Hobo.” Henry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged in 1967. He owned and operated Parker’s Grocery located on James River Drive in Prince George for over 50 years. Mr. Parker served on the Board of Supervisors of Prince George County for over 35 years. He was made an Honorary member of the Burrowsville Ruritan Club and Burrowsville Volunteer Fire Department. He supported many organizations with his time, service and contributions made anonymously. His first love was baseball and he served as a member of the Board for the Babe Ruth Museum in Baltimore, MD. Public viewing will be held Friday, February 20, and Saturday, February 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Prince George High School, 7801 Laurel Spring Road, Prince George, VA 23875. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Henry would appreciate a donation to any of the Prince George County Volunteer Fire Departments, Ruritan clubs, or any organization of your choice.
