Henry Townes

Henry Carlton Townes, of Hopewell, VA, died on Friday, December 2, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lillie Townes; brother, Calvin Townes; sisters, Lois T. Brogdon and Catherine T. Redd. Carlton is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Rogers Townes; two sons, Bruce Carlton Townes of Sacramento, California and Bryan Landon Townes of Richmond, VA. Carlton was born in Ferndale, VA and was a graduate of the University of Richmond. He read for the law at the offices of Jefferies & Eck and shortly after passed the Bar. He was employed by A.H. Robins (later known as Wyeth) as Vice President-Finance. He served on the Hopewell School Board and was the Treasurer of St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church in Hopewell, VA until the year 2010. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Merchantâ??s Hope Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Prince George with the Reverend William Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to First Baptist Church (401 N. 2nd Ave Hopewell, VA 23860), St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church (505 Cedar Lane Hopewell, VA 23860), or Hospice of Virginia (2621 Grove Ave-5th Floor Richmond, VA 23220).
