Lieutenant-Colonel Henry L. Waltrich, US Army (Ret) was born in Philadelphia, PA. on 2, January 1929 and departed this life on 13, October 2016. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Erentrudis; son, Steven; daughter-in-law, Margaret; and three wonderful grandsons, Joseph, Jacob, and Anthony. He was a graduate of LaSalle College High School in Philadelphia, the University of Maryland, the Armed Forces Staff College and numerous other service schools.
Colonel Waltrich enlisted in the United States Army in 1947 and completed Officer Candidate School in 1952. His service included two tours of duty in Vietnam as well as postings in Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and locations throughout the Continental U.S. The Legion of Merit (oak leaf cluster) Bronze Star (oak leaf cluster) and The Meritorious Service Medal were among the commendations that Colonel Waltrich was awarded up until his discharge with Full Honors in 1973.
Following 25 years of active military service Henry served 14 years with the Virginia Department of Personnel and Training. Henry belonged to The Retired Officers Association and several other organizations where he served in various positions.
A lifelong avid fisherman, Henry was a proud member of the Chester Fishing Club and was the recipient of several state fishing citations. Through good times and bad, Henry was a loyal and passionate fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 1pm on Saturday, October 29th at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Chesterfield, Virginia. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at Ft. Meyer, Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Augustine Church may be made.
