Herbert Craig Armstrong

March 13, 1944 — July 24, 2024

Herbert Craig Armstrong, 80, of DeWitt, Virginia, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Born and raised in Hopewell, Virginia, he was the son of Norman W. and Elsie Leonard Armstrong. He was a loving son, brother, father, and "Big G." Craig loved his family, and looked forward to traveling with his siblings to the family reunions in Rocky Mount to catch up with his cousins. What he loved most was attending his grandchildren's various events and activities. Most recently, he found great joy in spending time with his great-grandson. While living in Hopewell, he would find peace in going to the marina to feed and watch the ducks, as well as, taking long rides just to see the sights. Craig loved working at Brown & Williamson, but was most proud of his owner operated courier service. Earlier in life, he was also a proud member of the United States Navy. In addition to his parents, Craig was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Leonard "Buck" Nunnally; and his beloved dog, Patches. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Edmunds and husband, John, and Dana McLawhorn and husband, Dale; grandchildren, Madison McLawhorn and fiancé, Hunter Bortnick, Trey McLawhorn and wife, Carissa, Jay Edmunds, Vincent Edmunds, and Faith McLawhorn; great-grandson, Hudson McLawhorn; brother, Jolly B. Armstrong and wife, Melva; sister, Norma Nunnally; as well as his sister-in-law, Mary Totin and husband, Al Davis; multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and his estranged daughter, Kelly Armstrong. The family would like to offer a special thanks to "Mr. Herbert's" loving care giver, Frizzell Potter and her family. Craig was so appreciative of the time they spent with him. Frizzell has truly become part of the family. A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, on Sunday, July 28, 2024. A private service will be held for the immediate family, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, in honor of his love for his dog, Patches, donations may be made to the Dinwiddie Animal Shelter, 10903 Wheelers Pond Road, Dinwiddie, Virginia 23841.
