Herbert “Aubrey” Bowman, 89, of Chester, VA passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018. Born in Petersburg, VA he was the son of the late John Vernard and Hazel Reames Bowman; and was also preceded in death by a brother, John T. Bowman; and two sisters, Ruth Clary and Helen Andrews. After graduating from Petersburg High School, he had attended Lynchburg College, where he met his wife of 67 years Carol, and they married on September 2, 1950 in Washington D.C. He retired from Petersburg General Hospital (Southside Regional Medical Center) as the Admissions and Emergency Room Supervior. While working for Petersburg General he was a member of their bowling league. Aubrey never met a stranger and was always helping a family or friend with a “30 minute job” which consisted of duct tape and a hammer. Upon retirement, he designed and built a family home on Lake Chesdin. He had a passion for enjoying time on Lake Chesdin with his family and friends. Mr. Bowman is survived by his loving wife, Carol Cook Bowman, one daughter, Sharon Entwistle (Steve); a son, John Thomas Bowman (Teresa); five grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Mark Entwistle, Johnathan Perkinson (Jennifer) and Katie Bowman Palmer (Alvin); two great-grandchildren; and special family members, Charles W. Andrews (Judith) and Laura Mae Reames Martin (Harry Clark). The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA with the Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson, officiating.
