Herbert Arnold Phillingane, 79, passed away on April 8, 2021 at his residence in Carson, VA. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Paratrooper becoming part of the 82nd Airborne in 1961. He boxed while serving in the Army and was the Golden Glove winner in 1962. Herbert started a small construction business in 1972 and later started H.A. Phillingane & Son Construction Company that quickly grew to a large and successful operation that is active today. Herbert is preceded in death by his father, George Phillingane; mother, Therese Phillingane; and daughter, Donna Sarver. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy “Bryan” Phillingane; his children, Mark Phillingane (Cathy), Adam Irvin (Mary), and Amanda Allen (Rob); grandchildren, Joshua Sarver, Jacob Irvin, Rachel Sarver, Sydney Irvin, Natalie Allen, and Olivia Allen; siblings, Lewis, Irene, David, Jimmy, Greta, and Gwen; along with a devoted nephew and employee, Tommy Chappell; and many other nieces and nephews. His cheerful attitude, loving heart, and bright smile will be missed by his family, friends, and community, as his loving heart left a beacon of light for all.
A visitation will be held at Carson United Methodist Church Friday, April 16, 2021 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Family memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be registered online at
