Herbert Fleming Scott, Jr.

Herbert Fleming Scott, Jr., 93, of Prince George, VA passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Prince George, VA he was the son of the late Herbert F. Scott, Sr. and Myrtle J. Mayes Scott; and was also preceded in death by a brother, D’Arcy P. Scott, II. Mr. Scott graduated Valedictorian of Disputanta High School and went on to graduate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now Virginia Tech, with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. He was an United States Navy Veteran having served faithfully during WWII. Mr. Scott retired from Allied Signal (Honeywell) after 25 plus years of service, where he was the originator of 2 patents. After retiring from Allied Signal, Mr. Scott worked for Prince George Electric where he had served for 29 years and was currently the Vice-Chairman of the Board. Mr. Scott has been a member of Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church for over 70 years, was a charter member of the Prince George Volunteer Fire Department, Company 1, and had served on the Industrial Development Authority for Prince George County. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and founder of the Marl Hill Hunt Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Elizabeth A. Scott; two daughters, Linda E. Scott and Rebecca S. Smith and husband, Thomas R. Smith, Jr.; three granddaughters, Jessica S. Morgan and husband, Aaron, Emily F. Smith and Dallas N. Smith; a great-granddaughter who will be arriving in September, Mia Fleming Hart; a brother, William H. Scott and wife, Myla; a sister, Paula Poole; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special and loving friends. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church. Interment with military honors will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
