Herman Lankford

Herman Louis Lankford, age 74, of Dinwiddie, VA, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011. He was born in Hallwood, VA, the son of the late John L. and Hazel Groton Lankford. Mr. Lankford was also preceded in death by six siblings. He was a member of Carson United Methodist Church, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Mr. Lankford retired from VDOT with 34 years of service. Herman is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Laura Chappell Lankford; sister, Hazel Smoyer and husband, Bob of Florida; brother-in-law, Earl Chappell and wife, Jan of Dinwiddie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A graveside funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Crater Community Hospice at 3916 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Dinwiddie Health and Rehabilitation Center and the nurses of Crater Community Hospice for the excellent care for Mr. Lankford.
