Wilson, Herman Melvin, 92, of Chesterfield, Virginia, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 17, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Blankenship Wilson; son, Melvin F. Wilson; daughter Helen W. Roach and husband, Joe; four grandsons Jason Roach and wife, Kathy; William Roach and wife, Vanessa; Tyler Roach, and Wesley Roach; great- granddaughter Emily Roach, and one step great-grandson Hunter Butterworth; one sister-in-law Lucille Wilson, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Hatcher D. and Minnie Spain Wilson, two brothers Hatcher D. Wilson, Jr. and Bernard A. Wilson. He served in WWII and was stationed in Australia and New Guinea. When he returned from the war, he married Elizabeth Blankenship on September 28, 1946. He was employed by the Titmus Optical Plant in Petersburg, VA for number of years. He was later employed by the Chesterfield County School Board where he delivered mail to the Chesterfield Coutny Schools and was well known as “The Pony Man”. He was a lifelong member of Second Branch Baptist Church. He had a great love for his family, gardening, hunting, fishing and beekeeping. He knew no strangers and he loved to talk to everyone. The family will receive from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Second Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
