Hermine Margaret Anderson

January 10, 1937 — March 9, 2025

Hermine Margaret Anderson passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1937, in Ansbach, Germany, as the fifth of six children. Hermine's early years were difficult, as she grew up in war-torn Germany during World War II. These early struggles gave her an inner strength that stayed with her for the rest of her life.

In 1958, Hermine immigrated to the United States, where she lived for nearly 70 years. She had a rich family life and was the best friend and beloved companion to her sister, Lydia Thinnes, Lydia's husband, Charles, and their children and grandchildren. She also had a successful 39-year career as a seamstress.

Hermine will forever be remembered by her family and friends as a kind and generous person. She was always the first to step in when those she loved were in need. Hermine took great pride in her home in Chester, Virginia. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, and planning her next home improvement, many of which she undertook on her own. She was also an animal lover and, after her retirement, adopted and cared for several neighborhood cats.

Hermine is preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Margarete Reulein; her brother, Hans Reulein; her sisters, Hildegard Reulein and Lydia Thinnes; and her niece, Ramona Egulf. Hermine is survived by her brothers, Helmut and Arthur Reulein, of Germany; her loving niece, Marion Barkley (Bud), of Lawrenceville, Virginia, who was her primary caretaker in her later years; her nephew, Norbert Thinnes, of Powhatan Virginia; and many other family members in Virginia, Florida, and Germany.

Hermine's family would like to thank B.J. Douglas for her kindness and assistance in caring for Hermine over the years. The family would also like to thank the staff of Lawrenceville Health and Rehabilitation and Hospice of Virginia for their patience and compassion while Hermine was in their care.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11am, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, in Chester, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the 4Paws Rescue Team or The Alzheimer's Association.
