Hilda Shaver Johnson, age 76, of Chester, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004. She was the widow of Donald Stewart Johnson, a retired disabled Navy veteran, daughter of the late Jesse Lee Shaver and Dora Koon Shaver of West Virginia. She is survived by a son, George Steven Hepner and wife, Gina, two grandchildren, Steven Wayne and Tiffany Hepner, a daughter Sharon K. Hepner, Brothers Harley W. Shaver and Jerry D. Shaver and numerous nieces and nephews in Virginia and West Virginia. Mrs. Johnson was retired from the Federal Government.
Mrs. Johnson spent over 35 years in various volunteer organizations. She was Dispatcher of Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad, Secretary and Member of Ladies Auxiliary of West End VRS and Senior Squad, Secretary of Tri-Chapter First Aid Instructor’s Club, Secretary of Bermuda Baptist Church, Secretary of Maud Hurt/Philathea Sunday School Class at Chester Baptist Church, Interpreter for the Deaf at Oakwood Memorial Baptist, Developer and Teacher of a First-Aid Class for the Deaf at the Red Cross in Lakeside (The first one in this area.)
Mrs. Johnson was the author of a book published by the Wishing Room in Mechanicsville: “A Child’s Diary – the 1930’s” - a true story about her childhood in West Virginia and Virginia.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec.10, 2004 at 1:00 Pm in Chester Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Stansfield, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Chester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MS Society, 2112 West Laburnum Avenue, Suite 204, Richmond, VA or Chester Baptist Church General Fund at 4317 West School Street, Chester, VA .
