Homer Constantine Eliades

ELIADES, Homer Constantine, 87, of Hopewell, died Thursday, July 28, 2016. He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey N. Eliades, his sister, Thalia E. Kapnistos, and his brother Plato G. Eliades. Born in Hopewell on February 22, 1929, he was the son of the late George H. Eliades and Parthenope S. Eliades. Mr. Eliades was a graduate of Hopewell High School (1946), the University of Virginia (1949) and the University of Virginia School of Law (1954). He served in the U. S. Army Counterintelligence Corps from 1954 to 1956. Mr. Eliades began his private practice of law in 1956, by establishing the law firm of Eliades & Eliades with his brother, Plato. He continued in that same practice until his death. Mr. Eliades was a member of the Virginia State Bar for 62 years, having served as a member of its Bar Council and as President of its Senior Lawyers Conference. He was also a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia Bar Association and the Hopewell Bar Association. He served as Chairman of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Bench-Bar Committee from 1994 until his death. Mr. Eliades became a founding member of the John Tyler Community College Board of Directors in 1967, serving as Chairman for two of his 15 years on that Board. He then became a founding member of the John Tyler Community College Foundation Board of Directors in 1979, serving as President for two of his 37 years on that Board. Mr. Eliades was a past President of the Hopewell Kiwanis Club and a past Chairman of the Hopewell Electoral Board. He is survived by his wife, Ruthan W. Eliades, his three sons, George H. Eliades (Julia), Peter D. Eliades (Tish) and Elliot T. Eliades (Susan), his daughter, Sherri Eliades Barrow Moore (Preston), his two stepdaughters, Christy W. Lantz (Michael) and Whitney W. Snyder (Dan), 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Private burial services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at The Beacon Theatre in Hopewell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Tyler Community College Foundation, 800 Charter Colony Parkway, Midlothian, VA 23114.
