Horace "Hb" Baird

Horace “HB” Baird, 89, of Colonial Heights, passed away at Dunlop House on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Mr. Baird was a life time resident of Hopewell. He was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hopewell and was head usher for many years. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, retired from Broyhill Ford and Philip Morris USA, and later worked at Ukrop’s. Mr. Baird was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Pat and their son, Butch; his parents Marion Sims, Sr. and Nannie Baird; his brother, James; his brother and sister-in-law Marion Sims, Jr. and Mable; and his sisters, Mary Florence and Dorothy. He is survived by his daughter, Alice B. Curtis and her husband, Barry; granddaughter, Kim and her husband, Bruce; 18 day old great granddaughter, Audrey; sister-in-law, Marjorie; niece, June B. Edwards and husband, Jerry; great nephew, Wes and his wife, Sara, and great nephew, Jeff. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2901 Norfolk Street, Hopewell with the Rev. Jacob Sahms and Jerry Edwards officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. The family expresses special thanks to the staff of Dunlop House where Mr. Baird was the longest resident (13 years).
