Horace Snead Farrish, 78, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Thursday, the 17th of May, 2012. Horace served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. Upon release from the Army, he worked for R.G. Smith Florist for a period of time. He then went to work for Pet Dairy, which eventually led to his long time employment with Little Oil Company, now known as Spencer Brothers Oil and Propane. He started as a truck driver with Little Oil delivering oil. He quickly got promoted to Little Oilâ??s sales department and on to management where he excelled for many years. Horace also owned and operated Barn Type Utility Buildings and sold mulch and firewood for many years. Horace will always be remembered as an independent, determined and successful businessman and as a wonderful story teller. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and many business associates. Horace worked very hard his whole life and loved to stay busy in his job as well as with his businesses. He worked diligently to provide a secure and comfortable life for his family every day for 60 years, up until his diagnosis with an aggressive form of brain cancer just 3 months ago. Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Charlie Farrish; two sisters, Evelyn F. Whitley and Thelma F. Wynn; two sons, Horace Keith Farrish and Kevan Snead Farrish. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife and partner of 60 years, Mary Frances W. Farrish; granddaughter, Victoria M. Davis and husband Michael, two grandsons, Devan Gray Farrish and Justin Keith Farrish; two great-grandchildren, Charleigh Grace Davis and Cooper Grayson Davis; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, with the Rev. Robert Rowland, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George.
