Horace Edward “Spanky” Grigg, 81, of Colonial Heights, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004 at his residence. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Virgil Francis and Hulda Brame Grigg. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and was a retired salesman with Frito-Lay. He was a former member of Memorial United Methodist Church and currently a member of Highland United Methodist Church where he was a member of the McAllister Friendship Bible Class and the United Methodist Men. Mr. Grigg was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil F. Grigg, Jr.; two half-brothers, Lawrence Andrews and Richard “Dick” Andrews; two half-sisters, Estelle G. Barker and Elizabeth G. Akin; and a son-in-law, David Lee Lilly. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Gloria P. Grigg; two daughters, Cyndi G. Keller and husband Charles of Inman, S.C. and Kay G. Lilly of Chester; five grandchildren, Lenn Cogle and wife Elena of Zaragosa, Spain, W. L. Lilly and wife Mary Kay of Colonial Heights, Tosha Ramkey and husband Scott of Chesterfield, Heather Smith and husband Wes of Chesterfield, and Brandi Bridges and husband Joel of Inman, S.C.; nine great-grandchildren, Lindsey Lilly, Victor Cogle, Zachary Ramkey, Andrea Cogle, Lexa Ramkey, Noah Bridges, Abigayle Bridges, Gabriel Smith, and Rachel Bridges. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 11, at Highland United Methodist Church with the Rev. David B. Lewis, pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
