HORACE ROGERS HIGGINS, 84, a resident of Waverly, VA and Mathews, VA died Monday, August 8, 2005. Born on February 8, 1921 in Dendron, Va he was the son of the late Obed Paul Higgins and May Rogers Higgins. He was predeceased by Mary Robertson Higgins, his wife of 57 years, and Dorothy Hill Higgins, his wife of 3 years.

Mr. Higgins was a graduate of Waverly high School and had attended Washington and Lee University. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during World War II; a member and past president of the Ruritan Club; a past member of the executive committee of the board of the Bank of Waverly; a past trustee of the Waverly United Methodist Church where he was a member; and was a partner in Higgins Brothers Lumber Co. of Waverly.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Horace R. Higgins, Jr. and Gerry G. Higgins of Waverly; son and daughter-in-law, Charles T. Higgins and Julia D. Higgins of Richmond; and daughter and son-in-law, Lou Higgins Savedge and A. T. Savedge, III, of Homeville; six grandchildren, Roger Higgins and wife, Jenny Higgins, of Charlottesville, Jonathan Higgins and wife, Ally, of Falls Church, Charlie Higgins of Washington, D.C., Brent and Ross Higgins of Richmond, and Jamie Savedge of Homeville; one great-grandson, Samuel Rogers Higgins of Charlottesville.

Graveside funeral services will be held in Waverly Cemetery, Spring Branch Rd., Waverly, VA., on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Connie Gibbs officiating. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Homne, Wakefield, on Tuesday evening, August 9, 2005, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia, 5540 Falmouth St., Richmond, VA 23230; or the Waverly Vol. Rescue Squad, P.O.
