Howard "Woody" Sidney Rackley, Jr., 80, of Prince George, passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2023. He was born on May 16, 1943, to Howard Sidney Rackley, Sr. and Louise Marie Taylor. Woody preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Rackley; and sister, Cheryl Rackley. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Patricia K. Rackley; son, Corey Rackley (Courtney); daughters, Jessica Rackley Ozmore (Danny) and Tammy Steininger (Nick); son, Charles Tanner (Sara); stepdaughters, Amy Stewart (Tim) and Marie Feldt; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews. Woody was the eldest of ten children. He is survived by his seven loving brothers and sisters, Jane White, Ann Webb, William (Billy) Rackley, Sr., Betty Williams, Donald Rackley, Sr., Barbara Clavier, and Gerald Rackley. Woody was a United States Air Force Veteran, retiring from Defense Supply Center Richmond with 33 years of federal civil service. Woody was a member of Family Worship and Praise Center in Hopewell, and served on the worship team playing acoustic guitar for several years. Additionally, he led Bible study groups and was passionate about teaching the word of God. He had a love for bluegrass, gospel, and classic country music, singing all over Virginia and Maryland with his friends, and recording dozens of albums. He shared his love for music with his son, Corey. He loved spending time with his family, and his many friends. He will be remembered for always being sharply dressed, his countless life stories and humor, and being a devoted husband, father, and friend.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at J.T. Morriss Funeral Home - Hopewell Chapel, 820 West Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, from 2 to 3 p.m., interment will follow at Bermuda Memorial Park, 1901 Bermuda Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23836.
