Howard Joseph Sherrick, Sr., 83, of Carson, ditched his wheelchair and ran to Jesus on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Born in Hopewell, VA, he was the son of the late Russell L. and Annie Katherine Sherrick. He was preceded in death by a son, Howard J. Sherrick, Jr.; sisters, May Cardosa and Helen Pedrick; and nephew, Jason Sherrick. Mr. Sherrick proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He graduated from the University of Richmond with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. He was employed with Aqualon retiring after many years as Operations Manager. Mr. Sherrick was a member of the Gideons. He was also a faithful member of Oakland Baptist Church where he served as Lay preacher at times. In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, collecting WWII memorabilia, and camping. He was a devoted and endearing husband and father. Mr. Sherrick is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce S. Sherrick; daughter, Kimberly S. Wilson (Joe); son-in-law, David Duncan; six siblings, Hazel Gaskill (Bill), W.R. Sherrick (Alwilda), Earl Sherrick (Betty), Ann Hathaway (Bill), Virginia Dietrich (Bill), and Mary Jane O’Donnell; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lori Maclin and Helen Vaughan for their dedication and care along with Grace Hospice, especially, Matthew, and Dr. Crane Niblack for their help in a time of need. Friends are welcome to visit Mr. Sherrick from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
