Mrs. Ida Hoyt Stotesberry McNeil, 94, a longtime resident of Hopewell Virginia, died peacefully after a period of declining health on Sunday, August 12, 2007, surrounded by family and friends. She was a faithful member of the Cawson Street Church of Christ, Hopewell, VA, for over 65 years and a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. She was the widow of James R. McNeil to whom she was married for 65 years. Born in Pungo (Beaufort County) NC on September 10, 1912, she was the daughter of Thomas Berkley and Mosella Elizabeth Gardner Stotesberry. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nollie Adams and Nora Wade, and a brother, Thomas Bennie Stotesberry. She leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Hazel Ray McNeil Miller and husband, Harry, James David McNeil, Velda Victoria McNeil, and Daniel Ross McNeil and his wife,
Elaine; three grandchildren, Harry Arnold Miller, III, Rebecca Jane Miller Stuckey and her husband, John, and Tracey Jean McNeil Powell and her husband, Ricky; two step- grandchildren, Matthew Elam and Eric Elam; four great-grandchildren, Dana Leann Stuckey, Suzanne Michelle Stuckey, Kaitlyn Marie Miller and Karen Elizabeth Powell; two step-great-grandchildren, J. R. Powell and Brandon Powell; and a brother Thomas Berkley Stotesberry, Jr. of California. The family will receive friends at Cawson Street Church of Christ, Hopewell, VA, on Tuesday, August 14, from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 15, at 11 a.m. at Cawson Street Church of Christ with Mural Worthey and William Harper officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA.
