FREDERICK "FRITZ" WILLIAM MAIFELD III, age 62, a resident of E. Church Street, Wakefield died Sunday Nov. 26, 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rebecca "Becky" Atkins Maifeld; a son Frederick "Freddie" W. Maifeld, IV; sister Sharon M. Dunn and her husband James H. Dunn of Rocky Mount NC; two nephews, Mark Dunn and his wife, Allison, of New York City, Pastor Brad Dunn of NC; a special "granddaughter" Christina Sosack; three aunts, Winifred Berryman, Gladys Jones, and Amelia Barrett; a host of relatives and friends; and brothers and sisters of the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department. He was predeceased by a son, Christopher Edwin Maifeld.

Fritz was born on Nov. 7, 1944 in Petersburg VA, son of the late Frederick W. Maifeld JR & Sarah Ellis Maifeld, and grandson of the late Frederick W. Maifeld, Sr. and Jean C. Maifeld. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1963 and was a graduate of Old Dominion Technical College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. He was employed by Northrope Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding as an X89-Production Planner II for 40 years. He was a former member of Waverly Baptist Church and for most of his adult life attended Wakefield Baptist Church where he taught the Stephenson Bible Class for many years.

Fritz was a dedicated member of the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years and he served as secretary/treasurer for most of this time.

A funeral service will be held at the Wakefield Fire Station, Fleetwood Ave., Wakefield, on Wed. November 29, 2006 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Jim Kerr and Dr. Bill Hales officiating. Burial will be in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Zuni, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the Wakefield Fire Station Tues. evening Nov. 28 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., and at other times at the family residence in Wakefield.
