Irene Reges

Mrs. Irene Lewis Reges, 89, of Petersburg, passed away Saturday July 19, 2008 at the Colonial Heights Health Care Center. She was predeceased by her parents George & Ruth Myers Lewis, her loving husband Raymond L. Reges in 1987, and a brother Herman Richard Lewis. A lifetime resident of Petersburg, Mrs. Reges retired after 20 years as a bookkeeper with W. T. Grants. She was active in volunteer and religious work, which she enjoyed, and a member of Crowder Memorial Baptist Church. She served for five years as associate director of the Petersburg Baptist Association WMU. She held all the offices in her church at one time or another and was a teacher of all ages. Mrs. Reges was a volunteer at Central State Hospital, serving on the activities plan. She was a volunteer and secretary for some years of the Southside Area Mental Health Association. She was active in all of these things until becoming a resident of the Colonial Heights Health Care Center. Even then, she became involved in the activities there, helping with some of the projects. Mrs. Reges will be remembered for loving young people. She leaves no close family, but she had her church family, who brought her much joy in the last years of her life; as well as her special friends, Mr. & Mrs. Coy Rhodes and family, and Mr. & Mrs. Don Robinson and family. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Tuesday, July 22, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Joe Elmore officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery.
