Irvin "Jack" Kingery, 93, of Prince George, Virginia, died on November 28, 2023. Born in Nottoway County, he was the eighth of ten children born to Daisy Mae Cawley Kingery and Frank Oscar Kingery. He grew up with his siblings playing in the fields, gardens, ponds, and cow pastures on his father's farm. Jack and his family later moved to Petersburg, Virginia, and after marrying, he lived most of his adult life in Prince George, Virginia, in a house he built. Married on October 1, 1949, to childhood sweetheart, Betty Latham Kingery, they had just celebrated their 74th year of marriage.
While Jack left school after the 4th grade, his natural talent and wide-ranging skills enabled him to work as a foreman and machinist at Allied Chemical until his retirement, and to serve honorably for over 20 years in the Navy, the Navy Reserves, as well as, the Army Reserves. He also founded and ran HyReach Tree Cutting Service.
Jack enjoyed working around and fixing large equipment and machinery, doing tree work, welding for friends and neighbors, beekeeping, and being a friend to everyone he met. His life goal, which he accomplished, was to keep America, his wife, daughter, and granddaughter, Lori, safe and cared for.
Jack attended Rivers Edge Bible Church for many years where he served in many capacities to keep the church community strong. He will be sorely missed by all those he is leaving behind to include, his beloved wife, Betty Latham Kingery; his only surviving daughter, Diane Kingery Burton; his granddaughter, Lori Dingas Thompson Cofer and husband, Vernon; his grandsons, Ralph G. "Jody" Burton and wife, Kelly and Stanley Christopher "Chris" Burton and wife, Stephanie; as well as his only living brother and best friend, Claude E. "Wimpy" Kingery and wife, Alpha; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to mention.
He was predeceased by his parents; a two-day old daughter, Jacqueline Kingery (in 1951), his siblings, William Griffin Kingery, Lee Kingery, Frank Robert Kingery, James Rufus Kingery, Raymond Jasper Kingery (died while on active duty in Italy in 1943), Nora May Kingery, Clara Odell Kingery, and Pearl Jean Kingery; and grandson, Anthony Dean "Tony" Burton.
Services will be held at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, on Monday, December 4, 2023. A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM with a Celebration of Life at 2:00. Interment with military honors, will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, in Petersburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Rivers Edge Bible Church, 11311 James River Drive, North Prince George, 23860. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to his caregivers, who cared for him with the most amount of love.
