Jack D. Daniel

Jack D. Daniel was born September 22nd, 1937 in Hopewell and passed away January 11th, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas E. & Mabel E. Daniel; sister, Sally Pershing; brothers, Silas E. Daniel II, and Drummer S. Daniel. He attended school, succeeded in graduating from college, then came back into Hopewell High School as a teacher, athletic director, and finally, principal. His love and dedication to the Hopewell school system was evident in his continuing and hosting the Hopewell High School Reunions at his own home for many years. Jack was a strong, active member of the Hopewell Rotary Club, the Masonic Lodge, and Merchant’s Hope Episcopal Church. All of his best memories are deeply rooted in the small town of Hopewell, Virginia. For the past 78 years, Jack Daniel has influenced many lives as a teacher, a friend, a father, and a husband. Everybody knew him and those that didn’t, know of him. He loved to regale anyone around him with stories of growing up in the 40’s and 50’s, of football games and fundraisers, of his adventures with his friends, and his travels with his family. This wonderful and influential man cheered up those around him with his sarcasm and jokes, his famous stories, and his dedication to family and friends. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Edwina M. Daniel, son, Sye Daniel (Teresa), daughter Edwina Clissa (Pascal); grandchildren; Brien (Brittney), Jessica, Jack; brother, Al Justice; along with several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday January 14, 2016 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with a masonic service to be held at 6pm. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday January 15, 2016 at the funeral home with interment to follow in Appomattox Cemetery with a reception to follow at Merchants Hope Episcopal Church in Prince George. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hopewell High School Athletic Fund, 400 S. Mesa Drive, Hopewell VA, 23860 to support Hopewell High School Sports or Merchants Hope Episcopal Church, 11500 Merchants Hope Road, N. Prince George, VA 23860.
