Jack Ervil Gutridge, (Pop),79, died suddenly Wednesday, July 7, 2004 doing what he loved best, working in his yard. He was born in Crewe, VA and had been a life long resident of the Hopewell area. Mr. Gutridge was a Retired Gunnery Sgt. with the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during WW II and was part of the Saipan Death March, was a member of the American Legion Post #146, the Hopewell Moose Lodge, and a retired maintenance supervisor from Bellwood Defense General Supply Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Varius Ervil and Bess Houston Gutridge, three sisters, Marinell Williams, Kitty Samuel and Dorothy Gutridge. Mr. Gutridge is survived by his wife, Minnie Fowler Gutridge, of Prince George, one son, Bruce Gutridge and his wife Christina of Prince George, one daughter, Beth Goode and her husband Henry of Florida, three grandchildren, Rusty and Susan Goode of Atlanta, GA and Bridget Mitchem of Chester, VA, two great grandchildren, Mahala Adaire, and Keri Ann Mitchem. The family will receive friends Friday, July 9, 2004 from 6:00 to 7:30PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 11:00AM in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George, VA.
