Jacklin Lee McCarter, Jr., 68, affectionately known as Jackie, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. He was the son of the late Jacklin Lee McCarter, Sr.; and was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Kenneth "Jack" Slade. On this day, we fondly remember Jackie's life, his infectious humor, and the profound impact he had on those around him.
Jackie was a man of many talents, and one of his greatest joys was coaching football and baseball. He graduated from Colonial Heights High School in 1974, where he honed his athletic skills and nurtured a passion for sports. Later in life, he shared his expertise and enthusiasm for football and baseball as a coach, leading his teams to winning multiple championships in both sports, a testament to his exceptional coaching abilities.
Outside of sports, Jackie was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had the remarkable gift of making everyone he met feel at ease in his presence. Jackie's infectious laughter and warm demeanor brightened the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
Jackie's family was his anchor, and he cherished his time spent with them. He is survived by his wife, Deborah "Debbie" (Register) McCarter, with whom he shared 39 years of marriage; his children, Jeremy Ewing, Micah McCarter, Katelyn (McCarter) Aker and her husband, Aaron, Adam McCarter and his wife, Briana (Person), Scylar "Puff" McCarter and his wife, Lexi (Shortlidge); his four grandchildren, Connor and Keegan McCarter, Noah Aker and Giavanna McCarter; his mother, Phyllis Ann (Sullivan) McCarter; his siblings, Donna (McCarter) Slade, Joy (McCarter) Edwards and her husband, Jeff, and Roger "Gregg" McCarter; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing to pay respects and celebrate Jackie's life will be held on Tuesday, August 1st, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Chester, VA. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 2nd, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Following the funeral, Jackie will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park.
Jackie's presence in our lives will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. As we bid farewell to this remarkable individual, let us remember the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
